1) Tell me about your style:
● The Productions

The beats are usually something I think can go with my lyrics right away, I usually like to write first, then edit the songs to go with the beat. Sometimes I write to the beat completely which is kinda rare for me. The fact is I have the ideas well before the beats. I worked with G-Funk, Kajmir Royale, Beat Catererz, Sap Da Beat Man, Johnny Juliano, Vybe Beatz, Superstar O & The Starist in the past two project: Self-Explanations & Tell Em’ I’m On II
● The Concepts

My song concepts are usually about my life process, hip-hop or the ladies. I got songs you could make love to, or win somebody’s heart with as well.

● The Samples

I don’t sample regularly but the one sample I remember is the classic sample of Marlene Shaw’s California Soul. The soulful sample inspired a musical history lesson
2) What’s new right now?
Well I just dropped Tell Em’ I’m On on That Crack, and soon as you know Dat Piff as well. I’m also in the lab working on my new album Feature Presentation which kinda feels like it’s gonna be amazing. I came along way since my first album Self-Explanations. People could get the Self-Explanations on itunes, and amazon.

3) Where did you get your name from?
Me and my homeboy Da-1 was chilling at my house, I need a name to let people know that I could body tracks. So out here in the bay area fools stay saying somebody got gas or be gassing when they got ill bars. So there you have it Oktayne became the rap name which means “I body tracks or shorty I body ya on that bed.” ha ha.

4) What sets you apart from other Hip-Hop artist?
Cuz I am Albert Devon Tatmon, not a single person wit that name exist in the game yet. I rap about what I know, and I don’t go around pretending to be someone else. I like to drink to patron with grape juice but only when I party, if I party. I do more than just rap yo I’m a CEO too. So be on the look out for my company F.L.U. Media in the upcoming years.

5) Give me one of your favorite R&B artist and why?
My favorite R&B artist is Trey Songz because that dude knows what exactly to say to the ladies. Think about why a lot are so crazy over him and all that. I would love to make a hit with Trey Songz, you know.

6) Who would you like to work with?
I would love to do songs with Wiz Khalifa, XV, Big Sean, Curren$y & Nipsey Hussle. And to tell the truth I think me and LL Cool J should collab so I could test my peers comparison. I would love to test my skills with the young beast Diggy Simmons as well. And I can’t forget Lupe Fiasco, J.Cole & Mos Def

7) What is the ONE thing that you are aiming to accomplish in Hip-Hop?
I just want to be successful, and be out there with the best of them with some billboard charted singles under my belt.

What is your greatest fear/challenge in the entertainment business?
Knowing when it’s time to switch things up to keep myself relevant in the game after so long of the same formulas of song making.

9) Any “crazy” fans yet? When did you first get a taste of it, what happened?
This chick started sending me naked pictures to my email saying that she likes all my sex songs, and I should do all that stuff I talk about to her. She threw me her number and told me exactly where she lived. She cussed me out because I never called her, and said I still love your music.

Hello, readers this is Ok To Tha Tayne,

it's been quite a while since I had consistently updated my blog.

My update is simply this: I got a new mixtape coming, it is in the works. So right now you and I are waiting on the hosts and graphics to be done, then a promo campaign to be done to keep you aware of what is going with me. The mixtape is hosted by DJ What It Iz, and the graphics is done JNGFX OF SMG. SMG is Smallzville's own Mike-Dash-E record label. The guest is Da-1 and DL Da Arsun on it. It is a mix of original tracks and tracks on already used industry instrumentals. I think this may be the last solo mixtape that I make that has other industry people's instrumentals.

I got the most love for Hijos Del Sol and Jose "Sin-X" Alonzo for helping me on my first gigs. There was a time where I was never getting any type of love on the gig getting process but slowly things change. With that begin said I hooked up with a PR from Sacramento, Ca. She made my bio more professional, and basically told me things about marketing that I would of never knew if we never connected. Anyways I got more promotion going on with the net, and other aspects of promo. I'm at a point where I can't give up on my music at all. I live and breathe this music so NO ONE can tell me different and that's that. I got love for all the venues that said no, and all the venues that said yes. I got that drive to keep going and that's it. I got some footage of my Halloween gig coming up in my next entry.

33 Revolutions El Cerrito, Calfornia

So recently after my second time performing at the Paddys Coffee House in Union City, California. I decided to ask Dave about setting a show at his 33 Revolutions spot in El Cerrito, Calfornia. As I went in the spot, I noticed Nas Nigger album on vinyl. I don't say Nas or Untitled because I'm a real Nas fan. Anyways Dave gave me a flyer, his email address as he told me to send any links to check out. So I sent three or four hip-hop acts including myself. I also included some very good bands I know. The people I sent for him to check out were Oktayne, a rap group called The Realists, Yun Doe, Alvin And The Pussycats, Explicit 4, Zephyr Riot and TrainFace. I send him so much information and also included a set list of each act that was there was no way he could of wait until a month later to contact me. I called the store for the first time then a girl answered and took a message, and yet I didn't get call back. I called again I got the voice mail, I was starting to get pissed off. I waited at least a week, then I called him again on my way to school. He answered and we talked about the gig setting, then he told me that his spot doesn't do hip-hop. The spot is a mellow and chill joint. Dude I performed at Paddys Coffee House and it just the fucken same. It's like a relaxing spot, and the vibe of my music didn't change that They just not as big as your spot in size nor are they a record shop.

First off, Dave must not realize he's in a middle of a urban area. What do urban areas tend to listen to, umm yea my point exactly. Secondly, you do not decline hip-hop artists for gigs and sell hip-hop artist material in your record shop. ie. NaS. And third, if I can't perform what about Alvin and The Pussycats, TrainFace, and Zephyr Riot, so realistically I'm not selfish. I care about other indies, who are good, or trying to be good. You either get better or worse with practice, and that's real talk for your ass. So Dave I know a lot of people who chill in your spot and they tell me they need hip-hop in there. So if you don't change up your act, then you eventually lose some customers. You got to be fair to everyone.

Rodeo, California’s Oktayne has a plan. Not one for simply thriving on a dance beat, Oktayne raps and rhymes about whatever is on his mind, whether it’s dreams of being a rap star, social issues, having fun and partying or even bringing a little Barry White smooth to his rhymes. Born in 1987, Oktayne has deep respect for the history of hip-hop, with influences including Ice-T, 2PAC, Jay-Z and Nas. Oktayne’s debut album, Self-Explanations, was released in 2008, and continues a slow-but-steady build in internet buzz.

Self-Explanations opens with What I Am, a declaration of self in song that's fairly stereotypical for Hip-Hop/Rap. The rhymes here are strong but Oktayne doesn't really offer much that's new or interesting. Hat Game is a bit perplexing. I had a hard time figuring out whether Oktayne is praising the trend of wearing/collecting different team hats or making fun of it. On one hand there's a fair amount of sports knowledge and love expressed by the song, but there's also a tendency in the song to change teams like the wind depending on whose winning. I Am Tayne is a much better intro song that the opening track. Oktayne gives you a look at who he is and why. Unlike a lot of popular rap artists who might decry the world for their own betterment, Oktayne gives the impression that he lives for the music itself.

Oktayne takes some time to praise the fairer sex on I Wanna Be High. Barry White smiles benevolently on this song as someone finally figures out how to bring the slow jam vibe to a rap song and does it right. Oktayne is a student of Hip-Hop as well as a performer, and pays tribute to its Soul and Funk roots on California Soul. Oktayne distinguishes himself in the Rap world with Neva; a gooey love song that says all the right things about love, commitment and family. It's a positive image that is often left aside in popular rap. Sexademic, however, could have been written by Luke Campbell himself. Fans of old 2 Live Crew material will love it.

Juicii shares mic time on Till The Sun Up; an entertaining if highly charged song about sex. I guess it's no good being a rap star if you can't brag about your prowess a little. Sosa The Champ sits in on Hold It Down, a great danceable song with real commercial possibilities. Sex appeal and dancing come together on Fast To The Ground, where it's all about the booty. This should score big for Oktayne on the club scene. There's real potential here. The dance-oriented material continues on Leaving With Me, although this tune is a bit more bland. Oktayne gives listeners a tour inside his mind with The Dreamer, a song about striving for what you want; growing up and taking responsibility for your own destiny. It's a hungry song; a positive message from someone who perhaps hasn't gotten where he wants to be yet but is certainly on the right path.

Oktayne scores major points on See You Again, a touching tribute to his aunt and uncle. See You Again is extremely well written, having a strong narrative that illuminates his loved ones quite well; it's very apparent how strongly he feels and yet done without sounding cliché. Oktayne closes out Self-Explanations by calling his own generation out for their lack of direction and seriousness on Focus. He reaffirms his own drive to succeed and calls on others to take their lives in their hands. This is one of the more energetic performances Oktayne gives on the CD and is my personal favorite.

Oktayne scores big with Self-Explanations. I thought the dance/club material was the weakest on the disc and yet still scores decent marks for quality while providing some of the most marketable songs on the disc. Oktayne is profane at times, but poetically say; he's got a lot to say. While the delivery might not always sit well with all listeners, there's always a dash of good humor in Oktayne's voice that makes even the most difficult of messages go down easier. Self-Explanations has flashes of the poetry of 2PAC, a pop sensibility that Kanye would be proud of, an occasional killer lyrical instinct in the vein of Ice-T and a whole lot of Will Smith's good guy machismo all wrapped up together. Oktayne has a great start here, and he's only going to get better.

I am still in shock from the news of Michael's death. I pray that his children & family will be strong with this tragic and untimely passing.
Many of you already know that I worked on a project for Michael Jackson (for the SEGA Game Corp's Sonic muisc under the name "Scirocco") many years ago - and I had NEVER been challenged to take my own production skills & ability up to "that level" of expected excellence, as I did while I worked on that project. He was a true genius creating music, and creating beats, melodies, and ideas right from his voice; making all of the instrument sounds and arrangements the way he would "hear it" in his head with his mouth - It was amazing.
Now, a day has passed after the news of his death, and I am still very, very sad, and actually - all of this is incredibly surreal to me, and I am still in disbelief.

Born Albert Devon Tatmon, in Berkeley, California on the 15th of December 1987, Okatyne is a millennium artist who recorded several mixtapes. He has a small buzz from his song “Brim Low” The song was a cut from the 1st Ignition mixtape. Ignition was a series of two mixtapes created for fan support, and improvement. Unfortunately he changed his squad’s name so that series is considered as unreleased material. Oktayne is also known around his peers, with his smooth tempting voice. He can use that tempting voice to rap well as well as to turn women on. He attended John Swett High School in Crockett, CA. There he took a Voice Class, and a Comtemporary Music Class. Oktayne second love was R&B but fell in love with Hip Hop before Tupac died. He used to stay in the hood while living in the city of Oakland but was too young to understand it. His family moved out of Oakland because of academic reasons. Oktayne grew up in Smallzville, CA (Rodeo) from 1994 until present. Oktayne first picked up the microphone to record in the 8th grade. During that year two students went to Oktayne’s house and used his Dad’s DJ equipment to record demo tapes. Around that time it was the era of the cassette tapes. The cassette tapes were popular until LP cds were the only type of album in the marketplace. In result the popularity of LP cds were slowly rising. Everybody knew things were about to change sooner or later. Due to those technology advances Oktayne’s progress wasn’t working properly. He eventually decided to be a solo artist. br>
Oktayne is growing into an image of young Hip Hop supporters. He maturely realizes that Hip Hop has no more substance. He wants to bring the substance back to game while sticking to his mainstream roots. He was dreaming about this since 1999 influenced by one of his brother’s friends who was starting a record label. So you can see he is growing into an image of young Hip Hop supporters. Oktayne’s era is known as the 80’s babies era or the late 80’s babies era. Oktayne’s album Self-Explanations is currently out digitally at i tunes, napster and rhapsody. The music produced by Beat Catererz, Kajmir Royale, G-Funk, and Sap Da Beat Man. The artwork was done by Slaugther Graphics with the sign “Welcome To Smallzville” in the background. The message of the cover is that he is an artist from that small town, and the small town is on the verge of being put on the map. The album is an organized album, and it is a debut that will identify to you why Oktayne is a good artist. The quest for greatness has begun for Oktayne, and it’s a difficult journey for him. The constant struggle of getting known since he is not from a big city that thrives on the hip-hop music scene. As long as he’s keeps the faith in his belief in God, then Oktayne will achieve many things. The mission for him is to make sure he’s able to do what he can to make him stable. Just enough to do what he loves and support a family in the process. A process that will take time as he grows as an artist. If you somebody that supports or may support his music then you will see that he grew so much through out the album.

How did you get started with your music? I had this old keyboard with drum loops, and i would put on the drum loops and spit to them, that was in 1999. I also put in Jay-z’s Hard Knock Life Album, and Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 which made me want to rap.

What are you currently working on? Right now I got an album out digital only called Self-Explanations. At the moment I’m working on a music video for my single Neva Thought. I’m also working on getting physical copies for that, so I can send out for reviews. I’m also working on this mixtape series called Self-Explanatory.

What kind of music do you listen to and how does it influence your music? It’s varies from hip-hop to punk. I am very experimental at times, but I’m mostly rap on the microphone. All my music I listen to is on my ipod. I got songs on there that influence my style, swagger, lifestyle and my emotional state of mind. So basically I have all kinds of music on my ipod.

What’s your opinion on mainstream music today? It is not as good as it used to be.

Who do you admire? Nas because he is still the most talented emcee in a long time to me.

Why would people want to listen to your music over someone else’s? It’s more than being marketable, my music can entertain you, and amaze you all in one whole project. You will not get a one dimensional artist out of Oktayne.

Who have you worked with and how have they affected your work? I worked with a Smallzville native Circus *TK and well I learn how to show my swagger more from his music. I also worked with a singer by the name of Mardell Maxwell who is from the state of Kansas, his hook affected me so much that I bought his album from ITunes. I also worked with an artist named Sosa Da Champ from St. Louis, and honestly he was the one that shined on our track, because the beat was up his alley. I wasn’t too far behind tho. I am currently planning to work on some music with this Utah singer named Bre, details about that will be revealed in the fall or winter.

What is your local music scene like? It’s not a spot popular in hip-hop so we have to rely on the big cities like Oakland and San Francisco. We have a few artist from Smallzville, who are currently buzzing. They are currently Circus *TK, Young Winn, Mike-Dash-E who are buzzing. The Smallzville movement is taken very seriously because there is even a label by that name. There will be more including myself Oktayne.

What suggestions do you have for other artists in the music industry? Stay true to yourself no matter the cause. Don’t cheat yourself by being something you are not. The reason is lies have a tendency of coming to the light. You don’t want your fan base to turn on you because you are not being yourself.

Where do you see yourself in a year from now? With my second album out called “Rubix Cube,” as well as my ep promo album called Geek Eye View to promote Rubix Cube.

What are your views about the HYPHY movement? The bay area stations played the music out, but it was hot while it lasted. The reason is because it made us different from everybody else. I wish we didn’t over do it so people from the outside would have a better impression about it.

Self-Explanations Is Almost Here

I been talking about the album over and over for almost two years, I been working on it for almost a year, and it's is finally here. I been talking about the album, since I am not known yet I could bring it out anytime. The thing is I hustle music, I always have. The music is my life and what not. I know nothing else in this world, but music and relationships. I got more music coming as soon as I get my hands on a microphone for the house. I been not able to get stuff done within the mixtape Self-Explanatory Vol.1 so the mixtape and album are coming out prolly the same time. The mixtape will come in a three volume series. DJ Ghost will hopefully host the Volume 1 mixtape, and DJ L GEE will host Volume 2. The mixtape will hopefully be online at Datpiff and Submit Mixtapes.

I am using one manufacturing company for the mixtape. I am using two different companies to manufacture the album. The album will be available on my noisehead, snocap, itunes, bestbuy.com, digstation, soundstation.com, isound, amazon.com, emusic, rhapsody and cd baby. Each time I will remind people when it is available on any of these places on the web. I will remind you on blogs and myspace bulletins.

The good folks of BET made it to where the only thing I could watch on there is re-runs. The videos got annoying, and 106 N Park is not 106 N Park without AJ and Free. It used to be a time when I was in high school, I would get home from a hetic day at school, then watch BET. I would watch Hits, I would miss Cita's World since it came .. I got home, but eventually watched it later. I would watch Rap City The Basement with Big Tigger, those were the days. The days when the TV wasn't oversaturated with bullshit dances. I saw how Rap City looked before BET cancelled it, and well it wasn't pleasing me anymore, but Rap City is Rap City. In this country we should have freedom of expression and not get took away, because people are scared to be responsible for their own children. If you don't want your kid to watch certain things then lay down the law, lock the TV channels that they can't watch, but do not use the music I love and enjoy as an excuse, of lack of responsility. No more censorship!!!!!

Since I want the album to have the perfect sound and the mastering wont be ready to do till next month, the album has been moved to december 23rd. So I will call it a "Self-Explanations Christmas." Since it's dropping near Christmas maybe I should throw a carol on there. No I don't think so I don't do carols in my music. Anyways it's been a while since I did the blog thing so bear with me. Anyways I am headed to do some shit for the mixtape in a few weeks I'm dropping soon which will be free with the album purchase. Details of ipod contest coming in January.

Self-Explanations Journey Begins

The new album dropping late October or Early November is basically an album that consists of everything a rapper must need on his album to survive. Self-Explanations is inspired by the state of mind of Hip-Hop being dead, love and enjoying life. It has a wide range of songs and creativity. I been inspired by the Smallzville Ent. artist (http://www.myspace.com/smallzvilleent) to help put the small town on the map with this album. You see the dreams, the focus and determination through out this album.
Right now the momentum is building slowly for the album, locally in a few cities around the Bay Area. The excitement behind this project is great, because I like the struggle. I basically grinded with a little bit of cash and no help from investors or such to start my label. The clubs not hitting me back because I never performed at a club before. So I got to grind twice as hard since I can't get a gig at a club at all. I will get mine Lord Willin', God is the source of my confidence and faith. The reason why I'm still living after all those surgeries as a kid. I'm glad to work with who I worked with on this one, and trust me this album is really dope to me. ABC Of Emceeing In The Game

I get this question a lot, "What do you think makes a great rapper/emcee/singer/artist etc.?" And I'm always sittin' there having to think of the most important things to say in a brief explanation before I end up talking them to death. So I just decided to write my ABC's of what I think makes a quality Hip-Hop artist..... Here goes.
Audacity: Your swagger is one of the most important things when it comes to character. No, you don't have to be "super-cocky", but having a great set of confidence is the key to being taken more seriously. Jay-Z is one of the best lyricist.... but his swagger alone makes his music ten times stronger.
Bravery: Don't be afraid to state your opinion... especially with political issues. People are more willing to listen to an artist more than Congress when there's a good point being made.
Conviction: If you got something to say, you better say it like you MEAN IT! If you're expressing your pain on that paper, that pain needs to show in your voice. 2pac is a PERFECT example of someone who always spoke with conviction.
Diversity: Step into other worlds. If you're more of a East Coast cat... try rapping on a West Coast beat or something different every once in a while. If you haven't tried doing a club song... TRY IT! If you always do club songs... do a more sincere song for once. You have to branch out!
Emphasis: No one's gonna pay attention if they can't understand what you're saying. Be clear! People like Ludacris and Eminem emphasize almost EVERY little syllable in every word. Listen and notice that you hardly ever miss a word no matter what speed they're going.
Flow: You could have the tightest lines written down. But if it doesn't ride the beat well, it's not going to be executed right. Just like comedians... no matter how funny they may be, if they don't have TIMING... the joke is lost. If you don't have timing... everything you say will be lost.
Gift of Gab: Jay-Z is another great example when it comes to this. It's easy to put a bunch of sentences that rhyme together at the end. But, TALKING to people and rhyming is another thing. Literally make it as if you're talking to your listeners. Jay-Z, for instance pretty much always sounds like he's having a conversation with you in his songs. That's what grabs people.
Honesty And Hustle: Just be real. If you ain't from the streets, don't try to play like you are. Give the people YOU! Dont fronT!!! Also keep ya hustle game up, like sellin cds, know how to sell!!
Individuality: You have to have something about you that seperates your style from everyone else's. If you're just a copy of someone else already out, you will NEVER be able to do what they do better. No one can be you better than YOU. Find what makes you special and perfect it.
Jokes: Even the hardest of the hard gotta have a sense of humor every once in a while. Make somebody laugh for once. You ain't gotta be a goof-ball, but I know you can get some kind of joke up your sleeve.
Knowledge: KNOW YOUR HIP-HOP HISTORY!!!! Don't step into this hip-hop culture without knowledge of the forefathers and mothers who set the standards before you. Learn what makes this evolution tick! Just because you say "2pac & Biggie are the greatest" doesn't make you a true hip-hop entity. Find out who influenced the people you look up to now!
Lyrics: It's one thing to be simple... and it's another thing to just be plain lazy. Work your vocabulary. There's more things to rhyme with besides "bat, hat, rap, trap, slap, strap and clap". Step the game up.
Maturity: Your experiences in life will make your music stronger, and people will relate to you more when you relate to them. Even if you haven't been in a certain situation... you've atleast seen someone else go through it (i.e. a friend, parent or even a character in a movie). Don't be preachy.... just relate! Natural: You gotta make it look easy. If you're trying too hard... people will notice.
Open-Mindedness: Take a day away from listening to hip-hop for once. Grab some jazz, some soul, some rock, some blues, some classical, some funk or whatever. Music all has a soul that will build you in ways you won't even realize. If your music is one-demensional.... your fanbase will be as well.
Phrasing: This also helps build your individuality. Phrasing is the things you say that automatically personify you. When you hear "Yup!" or "It's ya boy!"... you know it's Jay-Z. When you hear Jadakiss' high-pitched laugh, you know it's him. When you hear "Yeeeaaaaaah!" you know it's Jeezy. When you hear "Aye, Aye, Aye" you know it's T.I. When you hear "Ow!... Sha'mone!" you know it's Michael Jackson. Phrasing does wonders!
Quick-Witted: You gotta be clever. Especially if you're in a battle. You gotta know how to take anyone's insults towards you and completely flip it effortlessly.
Rhythm: This goes along with "flow". But for this one.... let your rhythm change on almost every song. When you rap in the exact same rhythm allllll the time, it will get QUITE annoying. Biggie always switched up his flow. Busta Rhymes always switches up his flow. The only person who never needs to switch his flow is Twista.... because the speed is impressive to people every time. lol
Stage Presence: You either have this or you don't. If you don't. Sorry! You have to know how to move a crowd in order to be successful. The test of your stage presence is with the reaction from the ladies. Women don't give a damn. If they don't like you on stage.... they won't even bother "booing", they'll just act like you don't exist. Honestly.... this might sound crazy to some... but the most honest people in the crowd are indeed the Black folks! Perfect example.... The Apollo! Your ass will get booed before you even say "Yo" if they sense you're not any good.
Topics: Please talk about different things. Talk about pain, love, happiness, spirituality, bad relationships, job experiences, friends, family, enemies, jealousy, lonliness, infedelity, loyalty or whatever. Just DON'T TALK ABOUT THE SAME THING ALL THE TIME!!!! Clipse was a dope ass group! But all they talked about was "cocaine, cocaine and cocaine".... where are they now???
Upgrades: All MC's who last in this world reinvent themselves consistantly. Whether it's through the music, your delivery, your physique, hairstyle or fashion sense. Surprising your fans is always a lot of fun... and when you do it right, you gain even more NEW fans.
Voice: Whether your voice is deep, high, nasaly, raspy, nonchalant or loud. Regaurdess... your voice has to command attention. This also is a natural thing.... but the more you use it, it gets better.
Wordplay: A lot of people question what this means. You want a perfect example???... listen to the first verse of "Till I Collapse" by Eminem, and you'll hear exactly what great wordplay is.
X: We're gonna X this one out, because there ain't no words that start with an X that is coming to mind at all. LoL.
Youthfulness: Ain't nobody gonna pay attention to a 40 year old rapper lol. Well... that's if you look and sound 40. As long as you keep that youth in you, you'll have longevity. People like L.L., Dr. Dre, Snoop and Jigga can go on and on, no matter how old they are... because they stay youthful.

Self-Explanations has just begun the recording phase. I started balancing time with my 9 to 5 (Costco really isn't a 9 to 5 job). I went to 17 Hertz Studio, which is a great atmosphere to concentrate on making music. Many studios enable you with that environment to concentrate. That is the most important thing when you are recording at a professional studio. You will fly through the session if you are extra prepared. I have the very first two songs recorded.
